As preparations for the 4th Be there! hit fever pitch, and in an atmosphere of summer bliss and enthusiasm –a result of this year's stream of submissions–, Be there! has the honour to announce its first official guest, the world famous animator Michaela Pavlátová.
The significant and widely known director from the Czech Republic was nominated for an Oscar (in 1991, for her film Words, Words, Words) and has been awarded the Golden Bear in Berlin Festival (in 1995 for her film Repete). Recently, in 2013, she received the Cristal (top prize) in the celebrated animation festival of Annecy (France) for her film Tram.
Her main characteristic is a tendency to explore, in an incomparably comic and sharp manner, issues of sexuality and love, and how these are shaped through modern culture.
She has managed to steadily captivate the viewers' interest throughout the years, while remaining in touch with modern developments as she evolves her techniques from 2D animation –in the beginnings of her career– to flash animation –in her last films.
Michaela Pavlátová visits Greece for the first time in order to attend the 4th Be there! Corfu Animation Festival. There will be a retrospective of her films, while she will give a masterclass on her personal approach on the art of animation. She will also be a member of the festival's jury Committee.
Once again –since 2011 and the tribute of the 1st Be there! to the Czech artist Jiří Barta– the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Greece supports and honours Be there! Corfu Animation Festival.
