WORKSHOP: Monique Renault
Monique Renault will present her film retrospective at the 3rd Be there! Corfu Animation Festival, and will headline an open discussion with the audience.
DISCUSSION: Argentinian animation: Talents, problems and opportunities
Participants: Inès Sedan, Patricio Plaza, Vassilis Kroustallis (artistic director, Be there!Corfu Animation Festival)
Argentinian animation has a long history, with the first feature animated film ever (El Apóstol, Quirino Christiani 1917, now lost) to be made in Argentina. Recent technical developments in animation (such as the overwhelming use of computer animation) have tended to somehow blur the distinction between national identities in the animated field. Yet Argentinian animators omehow retain a characteristic personal, 'hand-made' element in their animating technique, tied up most of the times with a strong political-social theme.
The purpose of this panel discussion is to investigate how young but distinguished animators from Argentina experience the situation in their own country and beyond, the problems they need to handle, and the opportunities offered by showcasing their work abroad, while at the same time retaining a modicum of Argentinian character.
