bethere2017-poster-Web456x324Τhe festival is happy to present its 6th Be there! poster by Lucija Mrzljak.

We selected our 6th edition theme to express Re-Boot!, and the talented young animator from Croatia, Lucija Mrzljak, was the one to design its visual identity.

Lucija Mrzljak: To re-boot means to start something again - but in a way that is new and interesting. I thought about the independent animation today, how it behaves in our technological/digital era.

Often I see modern animators turning to old techniques, taking the good ingredients from the past and leaving what is no longer necessary to proceed. It is sort of a transformation in evolution - now we can be technological and at the same time go back to the roots.

The theme inspired me to create a visionary character, he is driven by his creative ideas and projects them into the world. I used raw paper materials to remind of the raw and tangible side of hand-made creation.

Lucija Mrzljak (lucibuci.tumblr.com/) is an animation film director and illustrator, born in Zagreb, 1990. She studied at the Academies of Fine Arts in Zagreb, Krakow, Prague and Tallinn. After completing her MA of Animation in Estonia as a student of Priit and Olga Pärn, she got her first professional experience as an animator in Joonisfilm studio. Ηer films Šuma and Kut (2016) have been screened and won acclaim at international animation festivals. Next to directing animated films, she works as a freelance illustrator for children books and international political magazines (Newsweek.cz, Le Monde Diplomatique).
